Denise Whalen has been practicing in the field of Counseling Psychology since 1991. Ms. Whalen earned her Bachelor of Social Science from Penn State University, went on to earn her Master’s in Counseling Psychology, completed a certification program in Structural Family Therapy from the Philadelphia Child Guidance Center, and has trained extensively in the field of Play Therapy. Ms. Whalen is a National Board Certified Counselor who has worked in community mental health, adult partial hospitalization, inpatient, and outpatient settings. She has additionally taught as a part-time faculty member at Penn State and Alvernia Universities since 1998. In 2020, Ms. Whalen completed training in eye movement desensitization and reprocessing (EDMR), and currently practices primarily in trauma-based work. Ms. Whalen’s areas of expertise include working with families, individuals, and marital therapy.
